I have become so accustomed to strong heroines in novels that when I come across a weak one, it's so disappointing. My recommendations also would make great book club selections as these books are seriously fantastic!
1. Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas
2. The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins
3. Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon
4. Graceling by Kristin Cashore
5. Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead
6. Anne of Green Gables series by L.M. Montgomery
7. The Cousins' War series by Philippa Gregory
8. The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
9. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
10. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Great list! My evening book group sometimes reads YA and we didn't discuss The Hunger Games but most of us liked it. Most of us love Pride and Prejudice too. I've suggested Cinder to some of the members but I don't think they've read it yet.
ReplyDeleteI had a good laugh at the idea of my afternoon group reading Outlander. My afternoon ladies would be clutching their pearls in shock and dismay while some of my evening group would love it.
Haha. Yes! Outlander isn't for everyone, that is for sure! :) I think The Lunar Chronicles series would be great for a book club. I am reading Cress now and really enjoying it. Thanks for dropping by, Christina!
DeleteGreat list! I thought about doing this topics but I wanted to do something a little less expected of me (my blog is about feminism and books), so I did historical fiction instead.
ReplyDeleteOhhh! I love historical fiction, so I will have to check it out and I also love feminism and books...will be dropping by today! Thanks for visiting, Calavari.
DeleteLOVE your topic choice!!! Totally agree w/ Cinder. She's one of my all-time fave kick-ass girls. And Katniss & Jo March too!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Michelle! I love a strong heroine! Thanks for visiting!
DeleteLots of great female characters in these books with different kinds of strength, which I really appreciate.
ReplyDeleteYes! I didn't want to include just heroines from fantasy novels, but "realistic fiction" as well...gotta love an everyday type of hero! Thanks for visiting, Jane!
DeleteGraceling seems to be popping up a fair bit this week, I did want to read that one. Vampire academy is another I'm curious about, and have strongly considered reading.
ReplyDeleteGraceling is an awesome read! I'd love to continue with the series when I find time. I love Vampire Academy. I know it's not for everyone, but I LOVED the character of Rose. Thanks for dropping by, Greg!
