In 2014, I swore I would read all the books on my shelves. You know the ones. The ones that are collecting dust. The ones that you insisted on buying and couldn't wait to read, but then they sort of sat there, neglected for years. My goal in 2014 was to read one of these books at least every two months and the book had to have a 2010 publication date or older.
I read three books (that fit those requirements) from my dusty bookshelf the entire year.
Three.
Seriously?
The worst part is that the three books that I did read were fantastic, with one (Looking for Alaska) making my favorite books I read in 2014 list. I really need to try harder in 2015.
So, maybe I set too lofty a goal in 2014 and I am hoping if I make it a little more reasonable it will happen?
Here are some of the book that are collecting dust that I'd like to tackle this year:
Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson - I man this HAS to happen, right? I may be the last person on the planet who hasn't read this.
Soulless by Gail Carriger - I am afraid to start another series (I am already behind on so many that I love. I'm looking at you, Diana Gabaldon.) But I hear that I would love this book.
Shadows and Strongholds or The Greatest Knight by Elizabeth Chadwick - I love historical fiction and I have heard her books are definitely something I'd enjoy.
Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead - Again, a little nervous to start a new series, but I love Richelle Mead and I hear this series is just as good as Vampire Academy, which I adored.
Perfect Fifths by Megan McCafferty- I need to just finish this series already. What am I waiting for? I think I am a little nervous.
The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley - This book has everything that I love (historical fiction, time travel, romance, etc) and I even made it a goal in my Top Ten Tuesday post to read this book this winter. Maybe I will start with this one first?
What Happened to Goodbye by Sarah Dessen - I know this one has an earlier pub date than 2010, but still. I love Dessen and have read most of her books, so I need to make this one a priority.
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor - Again, this has an earlier than 2010 pub date, but I am tired of looking at this one on my shelf. I think I would love it!
So, my goal is to maybe read five or more of these books in 2015. What do you think? Where should I start? Do you recommend any of these books?
I want to do this, too. I have enough books in my basement that need some good loving.

DeleteI would definitely read Speak (it's a fast read and a powerful one) and The Winter Sea (one of my personal favorites). I am currently reading Susanna Kearsley's new one, A Desperate Fortune, which will be out this April.
ReplyDeleteI loved The Daughter of Smoke and Bone but have yet to finish the series. I also loved Soulless but as the series went on, I didn't like the later books as much. The first book is more of a paranormal romance/mystery but by the last book it is mostly mystery with paranormal elements with a little romance here and there.
I will move Speak up on my TBR list and I definitely want to read The Winter Sea this winter. I think I will love Kearsely's books.

I haven't read it, but The Winter Sea looks really good, Christina! I, too, have some dusty books...hmm. Oh, well. At least we've made it a goal, right? Taking the first step? :) Are you snowed in today?

DeleteI feel your pain Christina! I've made a similar goal before and utterly failed as well, which is why I really don't set goals anymore. It's as though the actual setting of a goal just dooms me to fail:) I hope you do get to Daughter of Smoke and Bone though, I LOVED that book so much!

DeleteI haven't read Speak either, and it's been on my to-read list for a long time! I know it will be good, but I know it will also be a really emotional read. Maybe I'm trying to work up to it!

DeleteI really enjoyed The Winter Sea...and her book The Firebird is loosely connected (it's book #2 in her Slains series). Both are very good!!!

DeleteOh god, I know that feeling all too well... when you are so excited to own a book and then when you do you can't be bothered reading it! And then you just move on to something else! I understand your pain, I've got so many books that I'm dying to read but I've had them for years. Great post! :)
