In My Mailbox #16

This week was pretty epic for me. I usually don't get a lot of books, let alone signed books, in my mailbox, but this week it seemed to be overflowing with awesomeness.  Check it out!  This meme is hosted by The Story Siren.

Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr
I was lucky enough to go to Melissa Marr's book signing at my local independent book store, Chester County Book and Music Company.  I have been meaning to start this series and listening to her speak about her book and her writing sparked even more of an interest.  Now I can't wait to start this one!    Plus, she gave me some extra signed bookmarks to pass along to my students, which is very cool!
Goodreads says, "Rule #3: Don't stare at invisible faeries.  Aislinn has always seen faeries. Powerful and dangerous, they walk hidden in the mortal world. Aislinn fears their cruelty-especially if they learn of her Sight-and wishes she were as blind to their presence as other teens.  Rule #2: Don't speak to invisible faeries. Now faeries are stalking her. One of them, Keenan, who is equal parts terrifying and alluring, is trying to talk to her, asking questions Aislinn is afraid to answer.  Rule #1: Don't ever attract their attention. But it's too late. Keenan is the Summer King, who has sought his queen for nine centuries. Without her, summer itself will perish. His is determined that Aislinn will become the Summer Queen at any cost-regardless of her plans or desires. Suddenly none of the rules that have kept Aislinn safe are working anymore, and everything is on the line: her freedom; her best friend, Seth; everything.  Faery intrigue, mortal love, and the clash of ancient rules and modern expectations swirl together in Melissa Marr's stunning twenty-first-century faery tale."

Oh. My. Gods. by Tera Lynn Childs
I won this signed book through Everything To Do With Book's Contest. YAY!  I have had my eye on this one and since I am currently teaching a mythology unit, this book seems especially fun!
Goodreads says, "A modern girl's comedic odyssey in a school filled with the descendants of Greek gods.  When Phoebe's mom returns from Greece with a new husband and moves them to an island in the Aegean, Phoebe's plans for her senior year and track season are ancient history. Now she must attend the uber exclusive academy, where admission depends on pedigree, namely, ancestry from Zeus, Hera, and other Greek gods. That's right, they're real, not myth, and their teen descendants are like the classical heroes -supersmart and superbeautiful with a few superpowers. And now they're on her track team! Armed only with her Nikes and the will to win, Phoebe races to find her place among the gods."

Goddess Boot Camp by Tera Lynn Childs
I also won this signed book through Everything To Do With Book's Contest.  Can't wait to read this one either!
Goodreads says, "Phoebe, who recently discovered she’s a descendant of Nike (the goddess, not the shoe), is finding that supernatural powers come with a crazy learning curve. Her stepfather, headmaster of the Academy for descendants of the Greek gods, has enrolled her at Dynamotheos Development Camp—aka Goddess Boot Camp—with a bunch of ten-year-olds for the summer. Embarrassing as that is, hopefully it’ll help her gain control over her powers in time to pass the test of the gods, continue training hard enough to qualify for the Pythian Games, and enjoy her godly boyfriend, Griffin, all while avoiding the ultimate mistake of accidentally misusing powers.  It’s another fast-paced myth-inspired heroine’s quest that’s sure to bring out the goddess in anyone.

Dead in the Family (Sookie Stackhouse #10) by Charlaine Harris
I pre-ordered this book awhile back and have been anticipating its arrival.  I am such a huge fan of this series and had to get my Sookie fix. I don't read many adult novels, but this series is a must read for me.
Goodreads says, "Sookie Stackhouse has finally settled into a relationship with the Viking vampire Eric, and her errant brother Jason seems to have his life in order, too. But all the other people in Sookie’s life – Eric himself, her former lover Bill, her friend and boss Sam – are having family problems. Eric’s maker shows up with Eric’s ‘brother’ in tow, the ailing Bill can only be healed by a blood sibling, and Sam’s brother’s marriage is about to take place... or will it? The furor raised by the coming out of the two-natured has yet to settle; some people are just not ready to sit down to dinner with a man who turns into a dog. And Sookie herself is still recovering from her last ordeal. She’s definitely improving, physically and mentally, but she’s always going to have some dark moments now. The werewolves tell her that there have been strange and ominous passers-by in the Stackhouse woods; now Sookie is about to come face-to-face with one of her more distant relatives..."

Rules of Attraction by Simone Elkeles
I won this book through Satisfaction for Insatiable Reader's contest. I loved Perfect Chemistry and am excited to see where this book is going to go.
Goodreads says, "When Carlos Fuentes returns to America after living in Mexico for a year, he doesn’t want any part of the life his older brother, Alex, has laid out for him at a high school in Colorado . Carlos likes living his life on the edge and wants to carve his own path—just like Alex did. Then he meets Kiara Westford. She doesn’t talk much and is completely intimidated by Carlos’ wild ways. As they get to know one another, Carlos assumes Kiara thinks she’s too good for him, and refuses to admit that she might be getting to him. But he soon realizes that being himself is exactly what Kiara needs right now."

The Carrie Diaries by Candace Bushnell
I am obsessed with Sex and the City so I couldn't pass on this one when I was browsing through my local bookstore.  This seems, to me, to be the perfect summer read! Plus, the movie, SATC2, is coming up soon!
Goodreads says, " Before Carrie Bradshaw hit the big time in the City, she was a regular girl growing up in the suburbs of Connecticut. How did she turn into one of the most-read social observers of our generation?  The Carrie Diaries opens up in Carrie's senior year of high school. She and her best friends -- Walt, Lali, Maggie, and the Mouse -- are inseparable, amid the sea of Jens, Jocks and Jets. And then Sebastian Kydd comes into the picture. Sebastian is a bad boy-older, intriguing, and unpredictable. Carrie falls into the relationship that she was always supposed to have in high school-until a friend's betrayal makes her question everything. With her high school days coming to a close, Carrie will realize it's finally time to go after everything she ever wanted. Rabid fans of Sex and the City will love seeing Carrie Bradshaw evolve from a regular girl into a sharp, insightful writer. They'll learn about her family background -- how she found her writing voice, and the indelible impression her early friendships and relationships left on her. We'll see what brings Carrie to her beloved New York City, where the next Carrie Diaries book will take place."

What did you guys get in your mailbox?  Have you read any of these books? Let me know what you think.  I look forward to checking out everyone else's mailboxes. Have a great day!

  9. I think you will enjoy Oh. My. Gods. It is not as deep on the mythology as Percy Jackson but it is a very fun book. I need to review it soon.

The Carrie Diaries sounds like fun. I never read Bushnell's books but I did watch the show sometimes and I liked the first movie. I really hope Carrie doesn't screw things up with Big!
