Books on the Big Screen: Firefly Lane

One of my very favorite things to do is watch a beloved book come to life on the screen. There have been so many great ones in the works this year and one I am especially looking forward to is Firefly Lane, which comes out this week!

I had the incredible opportunity to see an advance screener of Firefly Lane before it officially drops on Netflix February 3rd.  A big thank you to BookSparks and Netflix for this opportunity.  Did you guys read Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah? I am a huge fan of Hannah's novels (The Nightingale is one of my favorites!) as well as Firefly Lane, so I was excited to see the characters come to life on the small screen.  I saw the first two episodes and really enjoyed it. I thought Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke did an amazing job capturing the Kate and Tully's personalities.  I especially loved the music; let's hope for a soundtrack!

Virtual Q&A

I then had the opportunity to be a part of a Virtual Q&A with Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke, as well as the showrunner, Maggie Friedman and author Kristin Hannah. It was wonderful to hear from them and learn what goes into bringing a book to life.  I especially loved Kristin Hannah's life insight.  She explained that she wrote Firefly Lane at forty years old and she was talking about her life, her best friends, motherhood, and all the demands life brings. She said, "It's hard.  Acting, mothering, writing...everything is hard, so you just have to take the leap.  Envision who you are and who you want to be and BEGIN."  I absolutely love that.

So, let me know in the comments below if you have read Firefly Lane. Will you be watching it on Netflix this week?  I can't wait to continue with the series!
