September Confessions

I definitely thought I was going to read more "beach reads" this month, especially books that take place somewhere tropical or Nantucket, but I was gravitating towards more historical fiction and fall-like reads despite the hot temperatures here in Pennsylvania.  I did finally get to two books I meant to read this summer: Mistress of the Ritz and The Bookish Life of Nina Hill - both were outstanding!

As much as I am a summer girl, this endless summer here in Pennsylvania has been really hot...even for me! I think I am ready for cooler temps and snuggling up with a good book. How about you? I am already planning some more atmospheric reads for October.

Books Read in September:
1.  Winter in Paradise by Elin Hilderbrand (Adult Fiction) - 4.5 out of 5 stars
2.  The Duke and I by Julia Quinn (Adult Romance/Audio Book) - 4 out of 5 stars
3.  The Duke and I (Epilogue) by Julia Quinn (Adult Romance/Audio Book) - 3.5 out of 5 stars
4.  Mistress of the Ritz by Melanie Benjamin (Adult Historical Fiction) - 4.5 out of 5 stars
5.  Realm by Alexandrea Weis (Adult Historical Fiction) 3.5 out of 5 stars - Review to come!
6.  All My Perfects by Colleen Hoover (Adult Fiction/Audio Book) - 3.5 out of 5 stars - Review to come!
7.  The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Abby Waxman (Adult Fiction) - 4.5 out of 5 stars - Review to come!
8.  The Orphan's Song by Lauren Kate (Adult Historical Fiction) - 3.5 out of 5 stars

Chapter Books:
Ramona Quimby, Age 8 by Beverly Clearly
The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan (re-read)

1.  Favorite Book: You know you had an incredible reading month when you can't pick our favorite book of the month. It's a tie between Mistress of the Ritz and Winter in Paradise. Both very different books, but both very good books depending on what you are in the mood for.

2.  Biggest Surprise:  The Bookish Life of Nina Hill surprised me by making me laugh out loud.  I loved the witty banter between the family members and Nina's obsessive lists. A bookwork can relate!

3.
Biggest DisappointmentAll My Perfects was a good read, don't get me wrong, but I was disappointed that it bummed me out so much.  I really need books that help me escape from reality and the topic of infertility was hard. Nonetheless, I really liked Hoover's writing style and it was an entertaining audio book.

4.  Favorite Post:  End of My Summer Kickoff Feature and International Giveaway

5.  Favorite Part of September:  It has not felt like fall here in Pennsylvania, but despite the really hot weather, we have been doing some fall activities. We had a blast picking apples at a local apple orchard and attending a fall festival. I think we are ready for some more fall-like weather though. It's back up to the 90s here this week!

What was your favorite book you read this month?  Any disappointments? Let me know in the comments. I hope you guys had a great September.

    1. Right?! 90!!! I saw it goes down to 67 the next day. I would have liked a more gradual decent, but I guess we can't be picky. Thanks for visiting, Angela.

  4. Ack. Definitely not going to read All Your Perfects. Who wants that negativity in your life? Lol.
