December/January Confessions

So, I barely read any books in December, because between the holidays and illnesses, it was a crazy month! In January, though, I definitely made up for it!  I've been starting 2018 off with some OUTSTANDING books.

Books Read in December and January:
1.  The Library at the Edge of the World by Felicity Hayes-McCoy (Adult Fiction) - 3 out of 5 stars
2.  The Lost Season of Love and Snow by Jennifer Laam (Adult Historical Fiction) - 3.5 out of 5 stars
3.  Christmas in London by Anita Hughes (Adult Fiction) - 3.5 out of 5 stars
4.  Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl (Children's) - 4 out of 5 stars (Review to come)
5.  The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn (Adult Fiction) - 3.5 out of 5 stars
6.  Turtles All the Way Down by John Green (YA Realistic Fiction) - 4 out of 5 stars
7.  The English Wife by Lauren Willig (Adult Historical Fiction) - 3.5 out of 5 stars
8.  This Love Story Will Self-Destruct by Leslie Cohen (Adult Fiction) - 4.5 out of 5 stars
9.  The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis (Children/Middle Grade) - 4 out of 5 stars (Review to come)
10.  Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson - retold by Angela Wilkes (Children's) - 4 out of 5 stars (Review to come)
11.  A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness (Adult Fiction) - 4.5 out of 5 stars (Review to come)

1.  Favorite Book:  I adored This Love Story Will Self-Destruct by debut author Leslie Cohen. I am obsessed with When Harry Met Sally and this book definitely has that vibe. Also, I love a friends-to-somehting more story, so this book truly captured my heart.

2.  Biggest Disappointment: While I enjoyed The Library at the Edge of the World, it wasn't my favorite book by any means. It was V-E-R-Y slow moving and I was hoping to love it a bit more. The setting of Ireland was my favorite part, but it wasn't enough to make me love the book.

3.  Biggest SurpriseA Discovery of Witches surprised me big time. I didn't think I'd love a Twilight meets Dan Brown story, but I did! I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

4.  Favorite PostMy 8th Blogoversary and International Giveaway

5.  Favorite Part of December/January: The holidays were obviously my favorite part of December. We hosted Christmas Eve again and we had a blast! Santa was very good to my boys this year. January flew by quickly! I hope the rest of the winter does as well. Who's with me?

Onto February! It's a short month. Let's do this! What book did you enjoy this month? Did any disappoint you? Let me know in the comments.

  1. I am glad you found so many good books to read! I tried reading The Library at the Edge of the World but I couldn't get into it. I was hoping I would enjoy it like one of Jenny Colgan's books. I think it is first in a series too. I read The English Wife in just a day.

Hope you have a wonderful February!

    1. Yes, The Library at the Edge of the World was SO slow. I stuck with it mostly for the Irish countryside setting, but other than that it was just ok. I look forward to your thoughts on The English Wife --sounds like you enjoyed it! Thanks for visiting, Christina!
