September Confessions

Guys, I vowed this month to read some books that were collecting dust on my bookshelves and I am happy to report I did just that. I finally picked up The Rose Garden, which has been waiting patiently for me to read for quite sometime.  I also *finally* finished A Breath of Snow and Ashes audio book and that felt like it took just about FOREVER. I think that should count as reading four books for the month, right??? Gabaldon's novels are huge.

I have been reading a ton of early chapter books with my oldest son and we have been loving The Magic Treehouse series.  It's fun to read chapter books together, make predictions, and talk about the really interesting settings.

Can you believe the year is almost over? Not sure how that has happened. I want to read something spooky and atmospheric this October....

Books Read in September:

1.  The Alice Network by Kate Quinn (Adult Historical Fiction) - 4 out of 5 stars
2.  The Rose Garden by Susanna Kearsley (Adult Historical Fiction) - 3.5 out of 5 stars

4.  The Next Together by Lauren James (YA Sci-fi) - 3.5 out of 5 stars
5.  Pride and Prejudice and Mistletoe by Melissa de la Cruz (Adult Fiction) - 3.5 out of 5 stars (Review to come)

Audio Book: A Breath of Snow and Ashes by Diana Gabaldon (Adult Historical Fiction) - 4 out of 5 stars (Review to come)

Children's Chapter Books:

2.  Vacation Under the Volcano by Mary Pope Osborne
3.  Sunset of the Sabertooth by Mary Pope Osborne
4.  Day of Dragon King by Mary Pope Osborne
5.  Polar Bears Past Bedtime by Mary Pope Osborne
6.  Lions at Lunchtime by Mary Pope Osborne
7.  Dolphins at Daybreak by Mary Pope Osborne
8.  Midnight on the Moon by Mary Pope Osborne
9.  Hey Jack: The Bravest Kid by Sally Rippin

1.  Favorite Book:  A Breath of Snow and Ashes by Diana Gabaldon was definitely my favorite this month. Some of the books in the Outlander series are better than others and I really, really liked this one! It doesn't hurt that the narrator for the audio books is awesome!

2.  Biggest DisappointmentThe Rose Garden by Susanna Kearsley - While I really liked Kearsley's novels in the past, specifically The Winter Sea, I just thought this was ok. It was entertaining with a gorgeous setting, but it didn't wow me like her other novels in the past.

3.  Biggest SurpriseThe Alice Network by Kate Quinn - I really enjoyed this novel and was pleasantly surprised. I mean who doesn't enjoy reading about female spies? Yes, please!

4.  Favorite Post:  My Fall TBR List

5.  Favorite Part of September:  I've enjoyed soaking in the last of the summer sunshine. I didn't make it back to the beach like I was hoping, because the Back-to-School illness struck my entire house, but it was still a nice month. We are all getting adjusted to the Back-to-School routine as well. Now onto all things pumpkin!

What was your favorite book you read this month? Let me know!

  1. I still have The Rose Garden and The Alice Network on my TBR. I agree, Gabaldon's books should count for at least a couple books - it took me over a month to read the newest one!

  2. I`m really curious about Pride and Prejudice and Mistletoe. I know Melissa de la Cruz is quite a popular author, so I`m curious to see what she did with the story.
