August Confessions

Ahh. I dread this post every year. I am always so sad to see summer go.  I didn't get as much reading done as I would have liked this month (thanks to my new book business), but I still read a lot of adult historical fiction, which definitely takes me more time to get through and some of these books are quite long!

My oldest son and I have been enjoying reading chapter books at night before bed. He was very sick last week, so we were able to read a few more books than the usual. I love this time with him! I'll be sharing some of our reads in my next Children's Book Roundup post.

Books I Read in August:
1.  The Sandcastle Empire by Kayla Olson (YA Sci-fi) - 3.5 out of 5 stars
2.  Summer at Hideaway Key by Barbara Davis (Adult Historical Fiction) - 3.5 out of 5 stars
3.  The Last Tudor by Philippa Greogy (Adult Historical Fiction) - 4 out of 5 stars
4.  The Daughters of Ireland (Deverill Chronicles #2) by Santa Montefiore (Adult Historical Fiction) - 4.5 out of 5 stars (Review to come!)
5.  The Dream Keeper's Daughter by Emily Colin (Adult Historical Fiction/Sci-Fi) - 4 out of 5 stars

Chapter Books:
1.  Pirates Past Noon (Magic Tree House #4) by Mary Pope Osborne
2.  Puppy's Big Day by Nick Bruel
3.  How to Tame Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell
4.  Night of the Ninjas (Magic Tree House #5)  by Mary Pope Osborne
4.  Afternoon on the Amazon (Magic Tree House #6) by Mary Pope Osborne
5.  Ghost Town at Sundown (Magic Tree House #10) by Mary Pope Osborne
6.  Hey Jack: The Bumpy Ride  by Sally Rippin
7.  Hey Jack: The Best Party Ever by Sally Rippin

1.  Favorite Book:  The Daughters of Ireland by Santa Montefiore - This historical series is one of my favorites. If you like sweeping family sagas filled with secrets and a lot of drama, give this series a try. It's one of my favorites. Plus, the setting is gorgeous Ireland!

2.  Biggest Disappointment: The Sandcastle Empire by Kayla Olson - I had heard that Leonardo DiCaprio was set to produce this movie, so I wanted to read the book first. It was just an ok dystopian novel for me. I think I am completely over this genre, especially with reading the news lately....so depressing.

3.  Biggest Surprise: The Dream Keeper's Daughter by Emily Colin - Many times when I read time travel books I am disappointed, because I really have to suspend my disbelief. That was not the case here. I really enjoyed this one and being transported back to a Barbados plantation in the 1800s. Even though Colin didn't do into time travel specifics, I wasn't questioning everything like I do sometimes when I read about time-travel.

4.  Favorite Post: Best Books of Summer and an International Giveaway

5.  Favorite Part of August: We were able to head to the beach in early August and it was great to get away with my family. I also was able to spend some time visiting Willow Creek Winery in Cape May with my husband it was a blast.

Can you believe August is over? What was your favorite book you read this month? Let me know in the comments.

  1. Oh man, I haven't read any of those books yet. lol. I love the beach! I always said that I could live there but I think that would take away some of the "special-ness" lol Glad you had a nice little getaway. I can't believe how fast this year is flying by! I am not ready for the cold weather that's coming lol

  2. I have a couple of these on my TBR and hope to get to them soon! I haven't been to Cape May in years, but I'll have to check out that winery if we go again.
