2016 End of Year Book Survey

Number Of Books You Read: 73 and still going!
Number of Re-Reads: 0
Genre You Read The Most From: Young Adult

1. Best Book You Read In 2016?
Young Adult (published in 2016)Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys
Adult (published in 2016)Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld and One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Young Adult (published 2015 or later): A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
Adult (published in 2015 or later): Me Before You by Jojo Moyes and Villa America by Liza Klaussmann

2. Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn’t?
Heartless by Marissa Meyer - It was one of my most anticipated reads for 2016, but I didn't love it at all. I was able to get through it and enjoy it for the most part, but it didn't blow me away like the Lunar Chronicles series did.  I also thought I would love Richelle Mead's The Glittering Court, but it ended up being just an ok read for me.

3. Most surprising (in a good way or bad way) book you read?
The Girl in the Castle by Santa Montefiore - I thought this book was going to be like the usual adult historical novels that I've read, but this one really resonated with me. I thoroughly enjoyed the setting of Ireland and the characters were really compelling.

4. Book You “Pushed” The Most People To Read (And They Did)?
Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld and The One That Got Away by Leigh Himes

5. Best series you started in 2016? Best Sequel of 2016?
I continued with the Lunar Chronicles series, which I am loving! I also thought the best sequel was Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas.

6. Favorite new author you discovered in 2015?
Taylor Jenkins Reid, Curtis Sittenfeld, Robin Constantine, and Liza Klaussmann

7. Best book from a genre you don’t typically read/was out of your comfort zone?
I don't normally gravitate towards traditional romance novels and I thought Nora Roberts was known for that, but I am so glad I picked up Jewels of the Sun.  It was my first book that I've read by Nora Roberts and it was so much fun! I might continue with the series.

8. Most action-packed/thrilling/unputdownable book of the year?
With Malice by Eileen Cook

9. Book You Read In 2016 That You Are Most Likely To Re-read Next Year?
I don't typically re-read novels and if I do, they are classics.

The Season of You & Me by Robin Constantine

11. Most memorable character of 2016?
All of the characters from Salt to the Sea

Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys and When We Collided by Emery Lord

13. Most Thought-Provoking/ Life-Changing Book of 2016?
Salt to the Sea

14. Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2016 to finally read?
Me Before You

15. Favorite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2016?
“Good things don’t wait until you’re ready. Sometimes they come right before, when you’re almost there. And I figured when that happens, you can let them pass by like a bus not meant for you. Or you can get ready. So I got ready.”  - Taylor Jenkins Reid, One True Loves

16. Shortest & Longest Book You Read In 2016?
A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas - 640 pages
A Season for Fireflies by Rebecca Maizel - 256 pages

17. Book That Shocked You The Most:
Salt to the Sea - I had no idea about this tragedy. I looked up information about it for days after I read it.

I also loved Louisa and Will from Me Before You
And of course Jamie Fraser and Claire Fraser from Outlander series

With Malice by Eileen Cook or When We Collided by Emery Lord

30. Book That Made You The Most Mad (doesn’t necessarily mean you didn’t like it)?
Here's to Us by Elin Hildebrand - I DNF this book because I couldn't stand all the backstabbing and the women in it who don't support other women. The women featured in the book were bickering over every damn thing.

Let me know what you think and what are some of your favorite (and not so favorite!) books of the year. This survey is hosted by Jamie at The Perpetual Page Turner

  1. Loved this post and reading about your favorites. I will definitely be sure to read This Adventure Ends and The Girl in the Castle next year. Looks like you found some great new authors to read. Glad you liked Me Before You and the Lunar Chronicles. I felt the same way about Heartless and The Glittering Court. I DNF'd both.

    1. I think you'd love both books, Christina! I am also glad you agree with me regarding Heartless and GC....both disappointments! :( I was able to get through Heartless, but for the most part, it was just ok. Thanks for visiting!

  2. I have a few of Robin Constantine's books but I've yet to read them. I have a feeling I should soon. Ugh. Heartless. I'm so disappointed in what I've been reading so far. Seriously, I'm over retelling. I'm curious about the uniqueness of When We Collided. Is it unique in the way it was told? Or just the plot line itself?

    1. I definitely want to read more of Constantine's books...very impressed by her! Give Heartless a try for sure. I was able to get through it, but it ultimately was a disappointment. I look forward to your thoughts. I thought the subject matter was unique in When We Collided. I am a huge fan of Emery Lord's writing style though. Thanks for visiting, Joy!

I really enjoyed This Adventure Ends, as well, and like you, I loved the relationship between Sloane and her dad.
