Beach Reads For Little Beach Bums

Today I am sharing some of my favorite beach reads for little ones.  It's never too early to cultivate a love for nature and the ocean!

Beach House by Deanna Caswell - This is probably one of my favorite beach themed books that we own.  It's all about the excitement that this family has when they head to the beach for vacation. It captures everything fun about summertime and the carefree beach days.

Biscuit's First Day at the Beach by Alyssa Satin Capucilli - Who doesn't love Biscuit? This is an adorable read all about the fun things kids (as well as dogs!) do at the beach.

Where is Baby's Beach Ball by Karen Katz - My little guy loved this book when he was younger and I can't wait to share it with his younger brother. Every little kid loves to flip up the various flaps in this book and search for baby's beach ball.

Baby Animals in the Sea by Kingfisher - If you know a child that loves sea animals, they will enjoy this read which depicts cuddly and cute baby sea animals.  Plus, it explains a bit about each one.

Harry By the Sea by Gene Zion - Harry is a dog that is always getting into trouble and that's the case here at the beach.  Everyone thinks he is a sea monster when seaweed gets stuck on him.

Secrets of the Seashore by Carron Brown - This is such a cool book, because you need a flashlight in order to find the secrets of the seashore.  My little guy loves to search for various sea animals using the flashlight against the book.  Plus, it's really educational as it explains what animals hide int he tidal pond.

Duck and Goose Go to the Beach by Tad Hills - Duck and Goose are such adorable best friends. We loved reading about their adventures at the beach. Duck wants to be adventurous, but Goose is afraid, but once they see the ocean it's love at first sight!

A Day at the Seashore by Kathryn Jackson - This retro book is such a cute read and it depicts all the fun that can be had at the beach.  The duo swim in the ocean, eat lunch under the umbrella, look for seashells and more.

A House for Hermit Crab by Eric Carle - This book not only teaches young ones about hermit crabs, but it also has a deeper theme that can be discussed with an adult and that's change. I like that it teaches kids about change and how change is a part of life. Plus, the illustrations are fantastic!

Goodnight Beach by Adam Gamble - My little guy loves saying good night to everything at the beach.  First it starts off in the morning at the beach and the book takes you through the entire day right up to bedtime.

On a Pirate Ship by Sarah Courtauld - A day at the beach wouldn't be complete without pirates, especially for young boys. My little guy loves pirates and this story is so much fun!

Moby Dick: A BabyLit Ocean Primer by Jennifer Adams - When my little guy was small, he loved this book. It incorporates language from Melville's classic while teaching children about the ocean.

Daniel's Day at the Beach by Jason Fruchter - Daniel Tiger is always a toddler favorite and this book follows Daniel's fun day at the beach searching for starfish, but also reminds children of the rules of the beach.

What are your favorite beach themed children's books? Let me know some recommendations in the comments below.

  3. How fun! We're leaving for the Outer Banks in a few days, so this post definitely helped put me in the right frame of mind. I do have a few beach-themed books for Oliver, but I'm pretty sure we need more! :) Beach House looks so sweet!
