Friday Five (27) and a Giveaway

Happy Friday! Sometimes I like to talk about what I am currently into that is not necessarily book related. Here's what I have been up to/thinking about/enjoying lately. Let me know what you think!

1.  The Return of Downton Abbey - I am both simultaneously excited and anxious about this season. I LOVE this show, but I am sad to see it end.  Let's hope for a happy ending!

2.  All the TV Shows - I feel like there's been a drought of really good TV shows and then BAM, we are hit with some awesome ones. I am excited to check out Shadowhunters (let's pray it's better than the movie), Mercy Street, and War & Peace.

3.  Hot Crab and Shrimp Dip - I made this super easy dip as an appetizer for my Christmas Eve party. It was really good and I highly recommend it if you enjoy seafood.

4.  Making a Murderer - Anyone else watching this? I first heard about it a few weeks ago from Tara over at Running N Reading.  Man, this show is KILLING me. I am furious. I only have a few episodes left, so no spoilers please, but seriously. I watch it and say over and over again....is this real life?

5.  A YA Giveaway - Thanks to Amulet and Skyscape, I am giving away two young adult ARCs to one lucky US reader:  Seven Ways We Lie by Riley Redgate and Pearl by Deirdre Riordan Hall.  Both books come out this March! I wish I had time to review both, but my review pile is overflowing.  So, I'm going to give an extra entry to a reader who will review it on Amazon, Goodreads, or his/her blog, etc.  The deadline is 1/24 and please refer to my giveaway rules. Good luck!

  1. I liked Season 6 of Downton Abbey though parts of it kind of dragged. I was pleased with the final episode.

I am looking forward to Mercy Street. It sounds kind of interesting. I did watch the first episode of Shadowhunters. It was okay. I don't get ABC Family or Freeform as its called now but I tried out SlingTV to be able to watch the first episode and the picture was not very clear. My internet connection is good enough when I watch HBO Now but for some reason SlingTV doesn't work for me. Oh, well. Maybe it will be on Netflix next year!

That image for War & Peace reminds me of Natalie Portman's publicity poster for Black Swan. Lily James looks kind of evil there :)

    1. I'm glad to hear it, Christina! I am looking forward to this season, but SO, SO sad it's over.

I am also looking forward to Mercy Street as well...hope it doesn't disappoint. I agree about Shadowhunters. I thought the acting was a little subpar, but what can you expect for ABC Family/Freeform, right? I definitely think I will stick with it. I hope it comes to Netflix for you! It seems like everything is on there nowadays.

And you are so right about War & Peace's poster. I have high hopes for this show! *fingers crossed* Thanks for visiting!

  2. Oh, that's a wonderful news! I will never read WAR & PEACE. The size of the book scares always, and a bit prejudiced that I will not like it. But, I always wanted to the story, as I see it on the BBC's list. I can watch the show now, YAY!

    1. Exactly my thoughts, Ria. I am definitely not brave enough to tackle War & Peace, but I definitely want to see the show. Thanks for visiting!

  3. THAT DIP!!! It looks amazing, Christina! Good grief. This might be a Super Bowl selection at our house! I'm glad you're enjoying (if that's possible?) Making A Murderer; it's pretty wild, right? All of these people are coming out now, saying that they have different stories about what really happened, etc., but, for me, the bottom line is whether he should have been treated the way he was treated by our criminal justice system. Okay...I'll get off my soap box - ha! I've got to catch up on Downton!!

    1. YES! The dip is awesome and so easy. I think I'll make it for Super Bowl as well...dips are a must!

Making a Murderer is crazy. Seriously. I just can't get over it. It's truly horrifying and I am not even done with it! Have a great weekend and thanks for visiting!

  4. I've heard so many good things about the Making of a Murderer show! I need to get started on that, but I need to do it when work is a little slower because I know I'm going to get addicted and binge watch the whole thing.

I watched Shadowhunters and am on the fence. Did you watch it yet? I thought the casting was better than the movie, at least on Jace (and Alec - holy hotness! I hope they make his and Magnus's relationship more prominent than it was in the books), so that's something! Definitely going to keep watching:)

    1. Yes, you'll want to binge, so definitely wait till your work slows down. I can't wait to see what you design next.

I hear you about Shadowhunters. I feel like the acting was really bad. The casting was SO much better though...you are right about that. The movie's casting was so wrong, so I am glad to see the casting for this show is pretty much spot-on and a big yes to ALEC! I will definitely give it a few more episodes and I'm glad you will, too. Thanks for visiting!

I DVR'd War & Peace and will hopefully watch it in the next few days. I am excited to check it out. Thanks for visiting, Leanna.
