Friday Five (12)

Happy Friday! Sometimes I like to talk about what I am currently into that is not book related. Here's what I have been up to/thinking about/enjoying lately. Let me know what you think!

1.  Amazon Fresh - I tried Amazon Fresh last week and I must say that I loved it. Basically groceries and other random items (dog food, prepared meals, etc) are delivered to your doorstep for free if you are an Amazon Prime member. I am sure the "for free" won't last forever, but it was a nice way to get groceries without having to take out my two year old in the inclement weather.  Plus, I ordered the food in my pajamas the night before and it was on my doorstep the next morning. Win!

2.  Downton Abbey Season Five - My husband got me the season five DVD for Christmas and it just arrived in the mail a few weeks ago. I did what I said I wouldn't do, which is watch ahead. Yes, I watched ahead. First it was just one episode and then I got sucked in. It got REALLY good and I must say I loved the Christmas special.  Now I am sad I finished it early. *sigh*

3. Marley Coffee - This is my new favorite coffee for the Keurig. Bob Marley's son founded the company, so I imagine I am on vacation in Jamaica every time I drink it.  Plus, it's organic!

4.  Harper Lee - So, I got all excited (as did most of America) when I realized that her sequel to To Kill a Mockingbird was going to be released. Then I read mixed reports on the whole thing (like she didn't want it published or was manipulated into publishing it or the timing is suspect since her sister/advocate just died, etc.) which really put a damper on my excitement surrounding it. What do you guys think?

5.  Rachael Ray's Fisherman's Bake - This is by far my favorite seafood dish to make and is perfect for wintertime. It's not exactly super healthy, but everyone in my house loves it, even my toddler.

Thanks for visiting,

  1. I'm glad you liked the Christmas special. I liked this year's more than last year's which I thought was just okay (though I was relieved no one died), I do hope he comes up with some stronger story lines for next season especially if it will be the last.

I would love to have groceries delivered to my door! Especially in winter :) The high is supposed to be in the single digits this weekend. I have to go to the store today to get some things I forgot but at least it will be a little warmer than it was yesterday with the wind chill advisory! If I was still a Prime member I'd be tempted by Amazon Fresh but it may only be for bigger cities. I'm glad it works for you and hopefully it will be free for awhile!

    1. I liked this one so much more than last season's as well, Christina! I hope the story lines do pick up. I felt the last half of season five was much, much better than the first half.

I hear you! We are having cold weather, winds, and snow this weekend. I am not looking forward to it. So getting groceries delivered is really clutch. We have never had prime before (got it this year when it was on sale) and I have to say I really love it and think it's truly worth it if you order from Amazon as frequently as we do. Have a great weekend, Christina!

    1. A lot of my friends who live in the far off suburbs don't get Amazon Fresh yet. We get it b/c we are outside Philly, so that is one benefit. It's nice if you are lazy and don't want to go out! The coffee is really good…reminds me of Jamaica! :) Thanks for visiting, Leanna! Have a great weekend.

  3. Christina, this recipe looks amazing; thank you for sharing this! I doubt we have access to Amazon Fresh (I'll check, though!), but I do like being able to order ingredients for recipes from them that are sometimes difficult to find or require me to go hunting around; so much easier to order with my Prime and know it'll be here quickly. I'm not sure what to think anymore about the Harper Lee situation; there has been so much conflicting information. It is definitely disconcerting and takes away some of the excitement for me. Thanks so much for a great post; I always look forward to your Friday Five!

    1. YES! That is exactly what we used Amazon Fresh for. I was making certain things for our little Superbowl Day and I ordered the ingredients plus some odds and ends from them. It was really great. I know they don't have it for all areas, but if you live outside a city, like I do, then they should have it!
I agree about the Harper Lee controversy. Not sure what to believe, but the idea of people taking advantage of her makes me sad. I hope that is not the case! Thanks for visiting, Tara! I hope you have a great weekend!

  4. I love Amazonfresh too. I use it all the time. In my area it won't be free anymore this summer so I plan to use it until they start charging.

    1. I heard that the fact that it is free is not going to stay, which is a bummer, but I guess expected. I am really impressed by it and I think I'll do it a few more times. I'm glad you like it too, Linda. Have a great weekend and thanks for visiting!

  5. I'm so torn about the Harper Lee news! I really hope she wasn't manipulated into publishing it. It's sad to think that anyone would do that to her.

    1. I know, right?! I was SO SO excited when I heard the news, but then I read a few articles about the controversy and was sort of underwhelmed by the whole thing. Thanks for visiting, Allison! Have a great weekend!

  6. 1. I might have to check this out - stay home and have groceries delivered? YES PLEASE.

    4. I was also excited until I read the mixed reports. Now, I have no idea what to think. I genuinely hope HL isn't being manipulated and that it's being published with her permission. But, considering how long she's likely been holding onto this book, it seems unlikely, which is a shame. I hope she has someone looking out for her & her best interests now that her sister is gone.

    1. I know, right?! I am all about the deliveries. You pretty much sum up my feelings regarding Harper Lee and her sequel. I am unsure about how I feel about it. One hand I am excited, but at the same time worried she was convinced or persuaded to do something she wasn't comfortable with due to her advanced age and I heard she is practically blind. :( It's a shame. Thanks for visiting, Lea!
