Books on the Big Screen (8)

From time to time, I like to talk about books that are hitting the big screen. Here are a few that I've had my eye on!

Where Rainbows End by Cecelia Ahern - Love, Rosie comes out this month and is based on this book. I really enjoy Ahern's books, but haven't read this one. Let me know your thoughts if you enjoyed this book.

The Spook's Apprentice by Joseph Delaney - The movie Seventh Son, which comes out this month, is based on this book. I haven't heard much about it, but Julianne Moore and Jeff Bridges are in it, so I am intrigued.

Serena by Ron Rash - I'm not sure how I feel about this movie due out this March (on my birthday!!), but Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence star in it and I love them! Has anyone read the book?

Insurgent by Veronica Roth - March 20, 2015 - I hear it is going to be on IMAX and 3D screens! I'm sure it will be another hit!

The Longest Ride by Nicholas Sparks - Sparks is a hit or miss with me, but I really want to read this book before I watch the movie. It seems like pure chick-flick bliss. Plus, Scott Eastwood!! *swoon*

Far From the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy - This movie comes out in May and I have never read the classic, but I am interested. Carey Mulligan is playing the lead.

Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert - This is another classic I havent read and the movie is due out this summer. I feel like I should have read this novel. Is anyone a fan?

Paper Towns by John Green - This movie comes out in June and I adore John Green, so I am sure I will see it. I think Looking For Alaska is better than Paper Towns, but I am still excited to see how it will be translate to the big screen.

Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton - We've already witnessed Jurassic Park on the big screen, but this movie, Jurassic World, should reinvigorate a whole new set of fans. I'm excited! Plus, with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard attached to the movie, I'm sure it will be a hit. It's coming to theaters this summer.

Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie - Pan comes out this summer with Hugh Jackman, Rooney Mara and Amanda Seyfried in it. I love me some Hugh Jackman and I think it looks like a fun summer movie; however, there has been some controversy surrounding it.

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes - This movie is due out in August and I have never read a Moyes novel (shame on me!) despite the fact that one has been on my shelf for awhile.  Emilia Clarke is tied to this movie and I really like the sound of it.

The Scorch Trials by James Dashner - I can't believe the second Maze Runner movie is already due out fall of 2015. I still haven't seen the first one, but have heard good things. I know I LOVED the Maze Runner novel, so I should check it out soon!

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley -  Sounds like a fun Halloween movie, right? I hear Daniel Radcliffe is set to play Dr. Frankenstein's assistant, Igor. Yes, the hunchback one. This should be interesting.

Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins - The second installment is due out November 2015. Get excited!

The Martian by Andy Weir - This movie is due out this November 2015 and includes some incredible actors like Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kristin Wiig and Jeff Daniels. Plus, Ridley Scott is directing!

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey - I wasn't the biggest fan of this book (aliens aren't my thing), but I know many people will be excited to see this on the big screen. I hear Chloe Grace Moretz and Liev Schreiber are attached to this movie due out in early 2016.

And a few more worth noting…..

The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman
The Choice by Nicholas Sparks
Dark Places by Gillian Flynn
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
Brooklyn by Colm Toibin
Room by Emma Donoghue
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Seth Grahame-Smith

So, which adaptions have you the most excited? For me, it's Paper Towns, Jurassic World and Mockingjay. I'm sure I missed out on a few, so let me know if I missed one that you are looking forward to!

  1. I think I am most excited about Me Before You. One of my favorite books and I really hope they get the movie right. I haven't read Paper Towns yet but I am planning to. I hope it will do as well as The Fault in Our Stars though it may not have the same broad appeal. I am pretty excited about The Martian too. I just got the book from the library after reading an excerpt on Amazon.

    1. I need to read Me Before You before they make the movie. I hope it doesn't disappoint you. I don't think paper Towns will have the same appeal as TFiOS, but I think it will be done well. I was hoping they would make Looking For Alaska into a movie, which I think is better than Paper Towns. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on The Martian. I have never read it. Thanks for visiting, Christina!

  2. Actually, I almost never get excited about books being made into movies. However, one book I read was just made into a movie. The book is called "Undiscovered Gyrl" by Allison Burnett (a guy, by the way), and he made it into a film called "Ask Me Anything".

  4. There are so many Nicholas Sparks books+films! Busy guy. I really want to check out The Longest Ride (book and film), though. And I'm VERY curious about Jurassic World!

You should check out The Maze Runner movie! A bit different from the novel (the changes made sense to me), but still good!

    1. I know, right?! I usually don't bother reading Sparks anymore, but The Longest Ride intrigues me. I loved The Maze Runner book--absolutely loved it and so did my husband. He saw the movie, but I haven't gotten around to it yet, which is crazy. I need to make time! I am glad that the movie did the book justice. Thanks for visiting, Lea!
