December Confessions

Guys, I didn't read many books this month at all and I blame Christmas, obviously. Man, it was a fun Christmas, but very busy this year, so I had little down time to get reading done.  We hosted Christmas Eve dinner for fifteen people, so it was an exciting time! Plus, my little guy is getting really into Christmas…the gifts, the decorations, Santa, the lights, etc, so it was an incredible Christmas, but a whirlwind.

I am looking forward to getting more downtime in January and hoping to get caught up on my reading. I also need to start eating healthier, because I am pretty sure I consumed way too much cookies, chocolate and wine as you do during the holiday season. I hope everyone had a great holiday and a Happy New Year!

Books Read in December:
1.  The Kennedy Wives by Amber Hunt and David ----  4.5 out of 5 stars
2.  Blythewood by Carol Goodman - 4.5 out of 5 stars
3.  Ravencliffe (Blythewood #2) by Carol Goodman - 4 out of 5 stars
4.  Beneath Beautiful by Allison Rushby - 3.5 out of 5 stars (Review to come)
5.  A Year in the Life of Downton Abbey by Jessica Fellowes - 4 out of 5 stars (Review to come)

Didn't Finish:
This Shattered World by Aimee Kaufman and Meagan Spooner- It's not that I didn't like it, but I was having a hard time getting into it. I don't think I was in the mood for sci-fi.  I plan on picking it back up sooner than later since These Broken Stars was one of my favorite books of 2013.

1. Favorite Book: I loved Blythewood by Carol Goodman…if you love fantasy stories with a touch of historical fiction, boarding schools, and a lot of magic, definitely check out this series. Highly recommended.

2.  Biggest Surprise: The Kennedy Wives by Amber Hunt and David Batcher - I love learning more about the Kennedy family and this biography was utterly fascinating.

3.  Biggest Disappointment: This Shattered World by Aimee Kaufmann and Meagan Spooner- Something didn't suck me into the story like in These Broken Stars, but I definitely plan on giving this book a try again.

4.  Favorite Part of December: Christmas! I never thought having a child at Christmas would be as much fun as it is. It's like being a kid all over again. Pure magic.

5.  Favorite Post:  My 5th Blogoversary (!!) and End of Year Book Survey

Thanks for visiting! Let me know what book was your favorite that you read this month. Any recommendations?

  1. I'm so glad you had a great holiday season, Christina; it's kind of nice to get back to "normal," though, right? Whatever that is! Did you watch Downton Abbey last night? I thought about you! I'm currently reading Station Eleven and it is fantastic; definitely different from anything I've read lately and I've been pleasantly surprised. Hope you have a great day!

  2. Aww. I think you're the only one I've come across who didn't fall head over feet with This Shattered World. I'm curious...

  4. I loved These Broken Stars and I liked This Shattered World but it is a darker book. I hope you do get a chance to finish it.

I am glad you had a nice Christmas. I ate way too many sweets and I hope to cut back on sugar and exercise more this month.

    1. I am hoping to pick it up again soon….it definitely felt darker than These Broken Stars. I hear you about eating too much sweets at Christmas. I need to work them off this month! Thanks for dropping by, Christina!

  5. Sounds like you were incredibly busy in December so I'd say you did pretty awesome with your reading. [:

I think my favorite read of December was either Breaking the Rules by Katie McGarry or Assassin's Quest by Robin Hobb.

  6. I've thankfully never had to host a major holiday. With my parents and sister and her family all in FL, it has always been easier for me to come to them. I'm sorry to hear This Shattered World was a disappointment. I recently snagged These Broken Stars when it came out in PB last month. I'm glad you had good holidays!
