Books on the Big Screen (7)

From time to time, I like to discuss which books are going to grace the big screen and in my previous posts, I've talked about all the big movies like Vampire Academy, Divergent, The Fault in Our StarsIf I Stay, The Maze Runner, The Giver and Hunger Games. So, check out my previous posts if you want to learn more about those movies. Today I'll be focusing on the ones that I haven't talked about yet, so let me know what you think!

Paddington is due out December 12, 2014.  This will no doubt be cute, especially since Colin Firth is going to be the voice of Paddington. Nicole Kidman will be the voice of the villain and Hugh Bonneville as the voice of Mr. Brown.

City of Ashes is going to hit theaters this year and Sigourney Weaver will be joining the cast. I really enjoyed the first movie, City of Bones, but Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace just didn't work for me. At all.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is hopefully going to happen (yay!) since J.K. Rowling is currently working on the script. This fictional world will take place 70 years before Harry Potter.

You guys, Scary Stories To Tell in the Dark scared the BEJESUS out of me as a kid. If you were born in the 80s, I'm sure you remember this book! Anyway, they are turning this into a movie and I'm sure it will still scare me.

There's also some talk that the CW will pick up Sara Shepard's (from Pretty Little Liars fame) The Perfectionists, which I don't know too much about other than the fact that it's another murder mystery. I also read that Bravo purchased the TV rights to The Heiresses, which is her new series that comes out this May. Maybe this show will replace the void left by Gossip Girl?

Siobhan Vivian's The List has also been optioned for TV by MTV. I haven't read this book, but really want to.

The CW is also wants to bring Dorothy Must Die to the small screen already!

Lauren Graham is writing a pilot for the CW based on her book Someday, Someday Maybe. I am still looking forward to reading this one. Plus, I hope Graham's pilot gets picked up, because she is simply awesome.

Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series is coming as a TV show to STARZ this summer. I just read the first book in this series and WOW. I know it's not for everyone, but I was hooked. I will definitely be watching this show!

Jess Walter's Beautiful Ruins has begun casting. I can't wait to see this one in theaters!

J.K.Rowling's The Casual Vacancy is going to be a TV show in the UK in 2014. Hopefully it will come across the pond as well.

What do you guys think? Which movies and TV shows are you most excited for? Let me know!

  1. Oh, I so agree with you on Jace. If you close your eyes, his voice is perfect, but he just doesn't look like Jace...at all. I'm really, really looking forward to seeing The Maze Runner on the big screen. I hope it translates well because I love that series!

    1. Yes! It just didn't work for me, which is a shame b/c I liked the movie, but I spent most of the time wishing he wasn't Jace. ha. I agree about Maze Runner. I LOVED that book and I'm sure the movie will be awesome. Thanks for visiting, Melissa!

  2. Sadly, Jamie was not my ideal Jace either, though I did very much enjoy his accent:) I still loved the movie overall though and I'm glad they decided to move forward with the sequel! I'm really looking forward to Outlander, I read that one a while back and can't wait to see it come to life onscreen. I've been salivating over the little snippets and teasers they've released:)

    1. I know! The accent is great, but he is not Jace in my mind. I will still watch the sequel though. I LOVED Outlander….I have been stalking the clips as well. Thanks for visiting, Jenny!

  3. I thought The Mortal Instruments movie was decent, but I really had a hard time with the casting of Jace. Other aspects were really well done though, and I'll definitely watch the next one!

    1. Me too! I am glad I am not alone in this. I will definitely watch the next one too, but I'm still not a fan of Jamie as Jace. :) Thanks for visiting!

  4. I loved The List and think it will translate to the screen very well if it's in the right hands. I liked Someday, Someday Maybe. I bet it will get picked up. I cannot wait to get my hands on Dorothy Must Die. I was debating snagging The Heiresses from EW, but I think I'll wait until it comes out. I'm already so behind on my ARCs, I've been trying to be prudent with what I download and/or request. Lots of good-looking shows/movies to look forward to. I'm excited to see almost all of these. Thanks for sharing!

    1. That's good to know. I will have to get my hands on a copy of The List and Someday. I saw The Heiresses on there as well, but I may wait to read some reviews first since I am behind as well! Plus, I am making it a goal to read more books that I own this year. Thanks for visiting, Natalie!

  5. The Heiresses looks interesting. There is definitely a Gossip Girl void.

I didn't see City of Bones because I didn't like the look of it, from the trailer. Same for Vampire Academy and some others mentioned in this post.

Lately, I feel like a lot of the books that are turned into movies are not translated well at all due to very poor casting.

    1. Yes, that is what I was thinking about The Heiresses as well. I agree about Vampire Academy. It is one of my favorite series (Dimitri-swoon!) but I wasn't big on the casting for his character…the guy just isn't my version of Dimitri and the trailer looks very CWish and not in a good way. :) I agree…they need to do a better job casting. Thanks so much for dropping by, Jennifer.

  8. Great round-up, Christina! I think The Heiresses might definitely fill that Gossip Girl void! I need to read Beautiful Ruins before they make it a movie. And that Paddington movie will be so cute. I loved Paddington Bear when I was a kid! :)

  9. I had heard that City of Ashes had been indefinitely postponed. I liked City of Bones but didn't love it. It was at least better than I thought it would be after reading the negative reviews.

I'm excited about Fantastic Beasts and Outlander (though I don't get Starz so I'll have to wait till it's on DVD). I am glad Beautiful Ruins is being made into a movie. I wonder who will star...I'd love it if George Clooney was in it in some capacity...

    1. I read an article that they are in talks to start shooting City of Ashes in 2014 according to Variety. Who knows. That's a shame if they indefinitely postponed it even though their Jace didn't work for me. I feel like that is the source of the problem!
Oh, and George Clooney in Beautiful Ruins would be brilliant! Thanks for visiting, Christina!
