Top Ten Tuesday: Books I'm So Happy Were Recommended To Me

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.  I'm excited to participate; after all, I make lists FOR EVERYTHING!  This week's topic focuses on books that were recommended to us and I'm so glad I read the following books:

1.  The Distant Hours by Kate Morton- This is one awesome adult historical fiction!

2.  Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick- This is the first angel book that I truly enjoyed.

3.  Shade by Jeri Smith-Ready- I wasn't sure about this book initially, but thankfully I gave it a chance, because it ended up being one of my favorites!

4.  The Chosen One by Carol Lynch Williams-  Williams' novels are always so powerful!

5.  Sloppy Firsts by Megan McCafferty- This is one series that I adore!

6.  Annexed by Sharon Dogar- I teach Anne Frank to my 8th graders and this book goes perfectly with my unit.

7.  City of Bones by Cassandra Clare- One of my students recommended this series and it's now one of my favorites!

8.  If I Stay by Gayle Forman- One of my favorite books. ever.

9.  The Book Thief by Markus Zusak- Another powerful read!

10.  The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows- This is an adult historical fiction that I thought was very entertaining and a great summer read.

So what books are you glad were recommended to you?  All the the books listed above were recommended to me by either fellow bloggers, students, or co-workers.  I am so glad I took their recommendations, because I love each and everyone of these books.  Let me know what you think!

  1. Fantastic list! I don't know if I'm going to do a post this time (I haven't come up with close to 10 yet) but my list would definitely have the Guernsey book on it. I would never have picked it up if it hadn't been recommended to me by a colleague and I'm so glad I listened to her! Also my list would include the Harry Potter books. My sister convinced me to read them and now they are my favorites.

Someone also recommended Kate Morton's books to me and I haven't picked them up yet. I have a feeling I'll love them too.

  2. It is interesting to me that many of our same favorites are on others' lists. I wonder how that happens. It's as if a quiet little person goes around whispering the titles of great books in our ears.

Here's my gratitude list: Top Ten Books I'm Happy Were Recommended to Me. I hope you will stop by!

  10. Excellent list, Christina. I've read five of the titles on your list and I loved them all(especially Guernsey and their Potato Pie). I think that's a sign that means I should read the other books on your list as well :)

  13. I love The Mortal Instruments. I just picked them up from the bookstore one day and I'm glad I did.

I've heard a lot of good things about Hush, Hush, If I Stay, and The Book Thief. After I finish City of Fallen Angels, The Book Thief is next on my list.

Here's my list if you'd like to check it out: http://bit.ly/iyI0cq

  14. Definitely Phantom of the Opera--that was recommended to me, and it's become a major feature in the landscape of my brain...and Terry Pratchett; friends got me into Discworld, and it's wonderful. In a slight reversal of the theme, I feel really good about having recommended Juliet Marillier to a friend, as she's now become one of her favorite authors. :)
