*I had to buy a copy of this one! It seems like the perfect summer read!
Goodreads says, "Anna's life is upended when her father accepts a job transfer the summer before her junior year. It's bad enough that she has to leave her friends and her life behind, but her dad is moving them to the beach where her parents first met and fell in love- a place awash in memories that Anna would just as soon leave under the surface. While life on the beach is pretty great, with ocean views and one adorable lifeguard in particular, there are also family secrets that were buried along the shore years ago. And the ebb and flow of the ocean's tide means that nothing- not the sea glass that she collects on the sand and not the truths behind Anna's mother's death- stays buried forever."
Summer in the City by Candace Bushnell
*I also bought this one and can't wait to read more about Carrie in NYC.
Goodreads says, "Summer is a magical time in New York City and Carrie is in love with all of it—the crazy characters in her neighborhood, the vintage-clothing boutiques, the wild parties, and the glamorous man who has swept her off her feet. Best of all, she's finally in a real writing class, taking her first steps toward fulfilling her dream. This sequel to The Carrie Diaries brings surprising revelations as Carrie learns to navigate her way around the Big Apple, going from being a country "sparrow"—as Samantha Jones dubs her—to the person she always wanted to be. But as it becomes increasingly difficult to reconcile her past with her future, Carrie realizes that making it in New York is much more complicated than she ever imagined."
Soulless by Gail Carriger
*Christina from Reading Extensively loves this series and we have similar taste, so I knew I had to check this out. I read the first few pages and it seemed hilarious!
Goodreads says, "Without a morsel of exaggeration, its publisher describes this debut novel as "a comedy of manners set in Victorian London full of werewolves, vampires, dirigibles, and tea-drinking." At the center of Soulless's "parasol protectorate" is Miss Alexia Tarabotti, a young woman who lacks not only a suitor but also a soul. And those are not her only problems: When she accidentally kills a vampire, it begins a series of events that she must set out to resolve without the help of any proper authorities."
Die For Me by Amy Plum
*I have read nothing but awesome reviews for this book; I can't wait to start it!
Goodreads says, "My life had always been blissfully, wonderfully normal. But it only took one moment to change everything. Suddenly, my sister, Georgia, and I were orphans. We put our lives into storage and moved to Paris to live with my grandparents. And I knew my shattered heart, my shattered life, would never feel normal again. Then I met Vincent. Mysterious, sexy, and unnervingly charming, Vincent Delacroix appeared out of nowhere and swept me off my feet. Just like that, I was in danger of losing my heart all over again. But I was ready to let it happen. Of course, nothing is ever that easy. Because Vincent is no normal human. He has a terrifying destiny, one that puts his life at risk every day. He also has enemies . . . immortal, murderous enemies who are determined to destroy him and all of his kind. While I'm fighting to piece together the remnants of my life, can I risk putting my heart—as well as my life and my family's—in jeopardy for a chance at love?"
Also, keep your eye out tomorrow for my Beach Reads and Beach Must Haves For The Summer- Part II. I planned on sharing it Friday, but due to Blogger's shutdown, I am a bit behind!

I know what you mean about Blogger. I'm not sure what happened but it deleted my review of Between Shades of Gray and didn't post another review on Friday that I'd scheduled. Thankfully I found an older saved version in drafts and was able to republish it but I lost your comment. I really hope Blogger works out the bugs.

ReplyDeleteThanks! I've been trying to read more classics since I'm going to be a teacher. Plus, I've got to start studying for the Praxis and I know quite a few books will be on the test. Have a great week! :-)
