In My Mailbox #7

Today I am going to share the books that I received either through contests, for review, or books that I bought for personal/classroom library use.  If you've read any of these books, please tell me what you think! This meme is hosted by the Story Siren.   Happy reading!

The Dark Divine by Bree Despain
I had to pick up a copy of this book after reading all the great reviews.

Goodreads says, "Grace Divine, daughter of the local pastor, always knew something terrible happened the night Daniel Kalbi disappeared--the night she found her brother Jude collapsed on the porch, covered in his own blood--but she has no idea what a truly monstrous secret that night held.  The memories her family has tried to bury resurface when Daniel returns, three years later, and enrolls in Grace and Jude's high school. Despite promising Jude she'll stay away, Grace cannot deny her attraction to Daniel's shocking artistic abilities, his way of getting her to look at the world from new angles, and the strange, hungry glint in his eyes.  The closer Grace gets to Daniel, the more she jeopardizes her life, as her actions stir resentment in Jude and drive him to embrace the ancient evil Daniel unleashed that horrific night. Grace must discover the truth behind the boy's dark secret...and the cure that can save the ones she loves. But she may have to lay down the ultimate sacrifice to do it--her soul."

The Iron King by Julie Kagawa
This is another book I JUST had to buy after reading all the fabulous reviews.

Goodreads says, "Meghan Chase has never fit in at her small-town high school, and now, on the eve of her 16th birthday, she discovers why. When her half brother is kidnapped, Meghan is drawn into a fantastical world she never imagined--the world of Faery, where anything you see may try to eat you, and Meghan is the daughter of the summer faery king. Now she will journey into the depths of Faery to face an unknown enemy . . . and beg the help of a winter prince who might as soon kill her as let her touch his icy heart. The Iron King is the first book in the Iron Fey series."

Luxe by Anna Godbersen
I've always had my eye on this series, but never really bought the book.  After many comparisons to Gossip Girl, my guilty pleasure, I knew I had to buy this book.  This looks like the perfect beach read for me.  And plus, who wouldn't be swayed by this the fabulous cover?

Goodread says, "A big, sumptuous tale of catty girls, dark secrets and windswept romance unfurls in this compulsively readable novel of late-19th-century New York City socialites. Godbersen weaves a tenuous web of deceit, backstabbing and pretense that follows four teens: Elizabeth Holland, a prim and proper lady of old-money society, is betrothed to one man, though furtively loves another; Henry Schoonmaker, a debauched playboy who must marry Elizabeth or be disinherited; Diana Holland, Elizabeth’s younger sister who is in love with her fiancé; and Penelope Hayes, a member of the nouveau riche who will stop at nothing to win Henry’s affections. As Elizabeth and Henry’s wedding approaches, the spectacle unfolds in a wondrously grandiose scene, making for a fun, though not entirely unexpected dénouement. A delicious new twist along the Gossip Girl vein, readers will clamor for this sharp, smart drama of friends, lovers, lies and betrayal.

Boys, Girls and Other Hazardous Materials by Rosalind Wiseman
I won this book through The Story Siren's contest.  Thanks, Kristi! I look forward to reading this one especially since Wiseman is the author of Queen Bees and Wannabees, which served as the basis for the movie Mean Girls.

Goodreads says, "Looking for a new beginning after a terrible mean girl past, Charlie Healey realizes there’s no escaping high school drama .  Charlie Healey thinks Harmony Falls is the beginning of a whole new life. Middle school was brutal. But high school is Charlie’s big chance to start over and stay out of drama, except that on her first day she runs into Will, her ex–best friend, who had moved away. Now a varsity athlete and hotter than Charlie remembered, Will hangs with the crowd running the school. But Charlie doesn’t understand their power until an innocent delivery guy falls victim to a near-deadly hazing prank.  Torn between doing what’s right and her secret feelings for Will, Charlie must decide whether to turn in her very best friend or live with the guilt of knowing what he did.  Rosalind Wiseman’s first novel for young adults is a fresh, funny, and juicy read about friendship, betrayal, and how far some will go to be accepted.

The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting
I obtained this ARC through the Book It Forward ARC Tour.  I read it in a few days and already gave it a glowing review. It was an awesome book. Read my review here!

Goodreads says, "A serial killer on the loose. A girl with a morbid ability. And the boy who would never let anything happen to her.  Violet Ambrose can find the dead. Or at least, those who have been murdered. She can sense the echoes they leave behind... and the imprints they leave on their killers. As if that weren't enough to deal with during junior year, she also has a sudden, inexplicable, and consuming crush on her best friend since childhood, Jay Heaton.  Now a serial killer has begun terrorizing Violet's small town... and she realizes she might be the only person who can stop him."
