Waiting on Wednesday: The Falconer

This is a weekly meme hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine.  "Waiting on Wednesday" spotlights upcoming releases that I'm eagerly anticipating.

The Falconer by Elizabeth May
Pub. Date: May 6, 2014

Goodreads says, "Edinburgh, Scotland, 1844 - Lady Aileana Kameron, the only daughter of the Marquess of Douglas, was destined for a life carefully planned around Edinburgh’s social events – right up until a faery killed her mother. Now it’s the 1844 winter season and Aileana slaughters faeries in secret, in between the endless round of parties, tea and balls. Armed with modified percussion pistols and explosives, she sheds her aristocratic facade every night to go hunting. She’s determined to track down the faery who murdered her mother, and to destroy any who prey on humans in the city’s many dark alleyways. But the balance between high society and her private war is a delicate one, and as the fae infiltrate the ballroom and Aileana’s father returns home, she has decisions to make. How much is she willing to lose – and just how far will Aileana go for revenge?"
There are faeries, ballrooms, dark alleyways, a fierce protagonist, and Scotland in the 1840s…need I say more?  Plus, how incredible is that cover? I really love it. What do you guys think?

  2. I'm so excited for this one too Christina! Aileana sounds like a bit of a badass heroine, and I do love a girl that can kick a little butt:) I'm also mildly obsessed with Scotland and Ireland, so any book set there is a book I want to read!

  4. I actually really like the US cover. I was a little worried that it wouldn't be as cool as the UK version, but I was wrong. I've been excited about this one for a long time and I can't wait for it to come out!

  10. This sounds awesome. I love that cover, too. I used to dye my hair red like that but had to quit because the up keep was insane. Every time I see pretty red hair it makes me want to re-dye it. *sigh* Great pick!
